attack of the zombie fertility goddess bunnies…
It’s that time of year again. It’s time to celebrate the day Jesus was resurrected from the dead (zombified?). And there is clearly no more appropriate way to do this than to pretend a giant bunny (a rabbit, the earthly form of fertility goddess Eastre?) is hopping around giving out colored eggs and candy (yum! gummi bears!). And (like most things that involve Christianity) I don’t get it. I mean, I get the bunny / fertility goddess link. We all know what bunnies are best at. In fact, bunnies are often linked to fertility. Playboy has turned this into a cultural icon. But I don’t get the Bunny-Candy / Zombie-Jesus link. But then, I rarely “get” things that involve Jesus (or the people who worship him). And usually, I am all about rejecting these things. But this time it involves candy. And I rarely reject candy.
Yes, just because I don’t understand doesn’t mean I won’t participate. I want my gummi bears! When I’m offered a chance to consume copious quantities of chocolate, how can I object? Yes, I’m going to celebrate the zombification of a religious icon (that I don’t believe was the son of God, and I don’t believe was actually turned into a zombie) by consuming unbelievable quantities of gummi bears (and possibly some sharffen berger chocolate with sea salted almonds). If I survive the sugar shock it will be another Easter “miracle”.
Now that Scharffen Berger has been bought by Hershey’s (so sad! they said it wouldn’t change, but it is changing already), I’m looking for a new lovely chocolate treat to replace my sea salted almond bar. Does anyone have any suggestions for another local chocolaty treat that might replace the tasty goodness of scharffen berger? I’m afraid it might be irreplaceable.

Right there beside you on the Easter candy consumption. I always buy it about a month ahead of time and replenish it several times before the actual holiday gets here. Of course, Easter egg hunts are the best part of the holiday for me. Are 27 year olds too old to participate? Whaddya think?
