Oh NO! It’s a SAS Emergency!
Last weekend we were supposed to get a terrible snowstorm. In preparation for this horrible snowstorm I received a message from my employer titled Reminder of Severe Weather Policies and Procedures. In this message I was told that, “Everyone who works for the Medical Center… is considered “essential staff” and is required to report to work during severe weather.”I assure you that my work has nothing to do with actual patient care and that there is nothing “essential” about my position. I do statistical analysis for internal quality assessments. Can’t you hear the doctors shouting in fear, “Oh NO! Its a SAS emergency! I must know how we compare to other hospitals in terms of surgical infection rates immediately. And all the analysts are stuck at home because of the storm. We are all Doomed. DOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMEED!” (at this point everyone resorts to cannibalism and starts gnawing the arms off their patients).
Oddly enough this email stating that I should drive to work even if the city shuts down because of severe weather followed one titled, Stay Safe During the Holidays. It reminded me not to plug to many lights into a single socket, because that would be unsafe. And clearly my employer is highly concerned about my personal safety.
