perhaps karma doesn’t hate me as much as I thought
I got a raise and a promotion. This probably isn’t insanely unusual. In the past few years I have had several raises and promotions. What is slightly unusual, is that this happened in March, and no one told me. And apparently I didn’t notice.
Today I was checking my online paystub because the fiscal year 2007 cost-of-living adjustment was supposed to go into effect last Friday. And I was curious to see how it would effect my net pay. My check was a bit larger than I expected. And apparently my check has been a bit larger then expected since March. I have direct desposit and my bank automagically pays all my bills. So I don’t always keep insanely close track of what happens in my bank account. I occasionally check the balance to make sure nothing crazy is happening. I scan the charges to make sure nothing weird is showing up. But I don’t pay as close attention as I should. I don’t meticulously balance the account. So I apparently didn’t notice the raise I got in March.
But according the intranet Human Resources website (which details my “Personalized Compensations History”), my last performance evaluation (in March) showed that I am “exemplary”. And my “exemplary” performance merited both a salary adjustment and a promotion to the next level of ‘Programmer / Analyst’.
Of course, I have to ask my boss about this tomorrow. There is the possibility that this was all a horrible computer glitch, and I *don’t* have a raise and a promotion. In fact, I can see HR asking me to pay them back… But I’m optimistic. Perhaps I was too hard on Karma (see: June 30th post, “Karma… WTF?”).
