My coworker has a “theme song”….

I would like to say that it is unusual for people in my life to develop theme music, but that would be a lie. In reality, it happens to me quite frequently. This can be exceptionally annoying. Normally when a person gets a song stuck in their head — it is a minor temporary distraction. They are able to purge that song from their mind eventually. Unfortunately, when a “theme song” is associated with a particular person, then it plays whenever they are around. And if it is a particularly catchy song, it will be stuck in my head my head everytime I encounter that person. And if it is someone that I encounter fairly regularly, it seems like I always have their damn theme song stuck in my head.

Luckily for me, people seem to develop theme songs from my music collection. This means that generally the music isn’t so distastful (at least to me). Occasionally, music from outside my normal collection becomes associated with someone. Unfortunately, one of my coworkers recently seems to have become inexplicably associated with Trio’s Drei Mann im Doppelbett (roughly translated as, “Three men in the double bed”). If you are unfamiliar with Trio – they are the german group that sang “Da Da Da” (the song used in that car commercial a few years back). Anyways, I’m not sure how this music became associated with this particular coworker. Usually there is some sort of obvious connection. But to the best of my knowledge he isn’t German or gay, and I don’t want to see him in a double bed. But now everytime I see him, I hear, “Drei Mann in Dopplebett, Drei Mann in Dopplebett…”

The imagery isn’t pretty. And it is distracting. And it is driving me crazy (crazier?)…
