Atomic Fireball Stella… Is it too obnoxious?

I went to test drive a 2005 Atomic Fireball Stell by Genuine Scooter Company yesterday. It is a twist-shift 4 speed manual 2-stroke scooter modeled after the Vespa PX150 (one of Vespa’s most popular scooters worldwide). The AFS that I test drove yesterday was created as a 150cc, but had been altered to 200cc. It reaches highway speeds (at least 75mph). The Atomic Fireball was a “special limited edition” produced by GSC. Only 150 were made.

Scooters are kind of tacky to begin with. My scooter purchase dilemma was this: I wanted the character of a vintage scooter (and the new “vintage style scooters” don’t generally count), but I also wanted the performance of a modern scooter. I definately didn’t want anything that was plastic. The Atomic Fireball seems somewhat ideal. It has the performance of a modern scooter. And even though it is “vintage style” not actually vintage, it definately has character. My worry is that it has too much obnoxious character…

If you are going to get a scooter, you might as well embrace the tackiness. Right?
